AY Celebrates TINFF Awards

Comedian, actor and filmmaker, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY has cause to celebrate as his yet-to-be-released film, ‘Almajiri’ bagged multiple awards at the recently held Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).

The award ceremony took place on Saturday 29th October 2022 in Toronto, Ontario Canada, with lots of other actors and creatives from different perspectives.

AY was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award alongside Titi Kuti, a Nigerian actor, film producer, model, and television host and others.

Another actor, Emmanuel Igboke won a merit award in the Best Actor category with his movie titled ‘Crosses’, directed by Akeem Ogunmilade

Emmanuel Igboke was nominated alongside Alex Ekubo and others. The movie, ‘Crosses’ also earned him another nomination for Best Movie Producer (Africa) category as a producer but lost to AY’s ‘Almajiri’.

In celebrating his victory, AY said that his decision to do something different from his comedic comfort zone was only backed with action, which has fetched 12 awards from 27 nominations to show for it.

“Achieving this success came as a result of my willingness to use my platform to join the growing number of advocates worldwide to call attention to the ongoing issues of human trafficking, sex trafficking, and forced labour in Nigeria.

“A very big thank you to Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival for making this possible. I couldn’t have done it alone without standing on the shoulders of our wonderful cast and crew,” he said.
